THE BIG HOUSE . . .
For those who don’t live on Cape Cod year round, the next best thing is a second home where families of all generations can come for the summer season to refresh, renew and reconnect.
Such is the trend I am seeing with Baby Boomers seeking that haven near the sea for their children and grandchildren to cherish.
Such is the story of The Big House: the Story of the Life of an American Summer Home, written by George Howe Colt. The story is a loving tribute to his family’s century-old shingled home in Wings Neck and the experiences of his 42 summers on the peninsula: "an unchanging place in a changing world."
The bittersweet Labor Day weekend has past, when the Cape Cod summer house is packed up and memories stored away in the hearts and minds of those returning to work, school and other places scattered throughout the country.
Today’s inventory of homes for sale by the ocean or bay varies from rustic cozy cottages to classic shingled capes surrounded by beach roses to rambling antiques with nooks and crannies to hide in. I enjoy working with couples nearing retirement who have built up equity of their primary homes and want to invest that equity in a second home on Cape Cod . . . a place where the salt air elevates the mood . . . bare feet in the sand makes you feel free . . . the sky is crammed with stars . . . the table is surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles . . . collection of seashells gathered from summer’s past provide nostalgic memories.
You can order The Big House (bargain priced) at www.amazon.com. You can create your own memories by calling me, your Cape Cod Realtor, or go online to www.BeverlyComeau.com and start your search for your summer house by the sea so you can begin your annual pilgrimage next season.
