Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame and Museum
This week is full of excitement for the Cape Cod Baseball League. The new Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame and Museum opened its doors to the public last week. The new location is in downtown Hyannis in the John F. Kennedy Museum, this places Americans most beloved pastime in the heart of Cape Cod. The Hall of Fame and Museum consists of memorabilia from the 10 teams in the league. There are several old photos and the original charter of the Cape League. Autographed bats and baseballs with corresponding Major League cards are displayed in cases and show the direct connection between the Cape League and professional baseball.
Celebrating its 114th year, the Cape League is the premiere collegiate summer league in the country, attracting ballplayers from the best baseball programs around. Jason Varitek, Mike Lowell, Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury are four of the starting nine for The Boston Red Sox who played in the Cape Cod League. The 25-man roster holds even more Cape Cod Leaguers like Sean Casey, Kevin Cash, Justin Masterson, Javier Lopez and Craig Hansen. The Red Sox have had a long tradition of picking players from the Cape Cod League. Some of the past Red Sox are Doug Mirabelli, Nomar Garciaparra, Mark Loretta, Mark Bellhorn, Adam Stern, Kyle Snyder, Jay Payton, Mike Myers, Carlos Pena and David Murphy.
